Lucy Robins joined Performance Saddlefits in 2019, to service the Northern Victoria area.
Lucy owned horses growing up in the UK, where it is usual practice to employ a qualified saddle fitter whenever you purchase a horse. Lucy owned a young Connemara gelding, and she vividly remembers his saddle fit assessment and the continuous monitoring of how well his saddle suited him as his shape changed. Regular monitoring led to topping up of flocking and re-flocking as necessary.
Lucy moved to Australia in 1999 after meeting her Australian husband. It was their love of horses that brought them together – they met on a 4000-acre sheep and cattle property near Tamworth, where they rode horses each day mustering stock.
After settling on their own acreage near Rutherglen they continued to own horses, but Lucy took a break from riding whilst raising two children. Both children now also enjoy riding and share their parents’ love of horses.
Lucy believes strongly that it is our responsibility to show the next generation how to do right by these beautiful creatures. If they allow us to ride them, it is up to us to make it the best experience possible, for the welfare, comfort and success of both horse and rider.
With all the knowledge we now possess there really is no excuse for poorly fitting tack.
Having purchased a rather round and tricky shaped Welsh Cob, Lucy discovered the complex challenges of finding the perfect saddle fit – and so a began a journey into her own career in saddle fitting.
Lucy is now enjoying working towards becoming a Qualified Saddle Fitter with the Society of Master Saddlers in the UK.
Lucy is VIC-REGION 1 she covers all of Northern Victoria and just across the NSW border around Albury.
